Urban Planning and Policy

The Department was established in response to the need for convergence between the two disciplines of administrative science and urban design, which had previously been operated separately, in order to cultivate professionals equipped with comprehensive thinking and creative capabilities. Urban policy represents the outcome of urban administration and planning, while urban design constitutes the final manifestation of such policies. Accordingly, doctoral education grounded in the integration of these two fields will enable both students and faculty to advance toward a more concrete and future-oriented academic framework that effectively bridges theory and practice.

The Department aims to cultivate outstanding professionals equipped with the capacity to develop urban policies that contribute to future urban development, as well as urban experts with a broad perspective fostered through practical and participatory educational approaches. Furthermore, grounded in a deep understanding of the local community, the Department seeks to nurture leading urban leaders for the development of Incheon. Through field-based learning on domestic cases of urban innovation, exploration of development strategies in advanced cities, and firsthand study of successful urban planning practices, it strives to develop creative professionals with strong practical competence and the ability to address complex urban challenges.
